Stepping Up is NSW Health’s online recruitment resource for Aboriginal applicants and hiring managers.

Stepping Up aims to assist Aboriginal job applicants understand how to apply for roles in NSW Health by clarifying the recruitment process and addresses some of the challenges that can be experienced by hiring managers so they can more effectively structure recruitment to roles within NSW Health.

Our goal was to present relevant information to the Aboriginal community to inspire them to apply for work at NSW Health. NSW Health is committed to attracting and employing more Aboriginal staff where representation has been growing by around .15% per year reaching 2.5% in 2016.

The design of the site took into account Aboriginal motifs and colours and pays respect to Aboriginal culture. Having worked the NSW Aboriginal Land Council as well as St Vincents Aboriginal Heart Health and Murrumbidgee local health district, this was familiar territory.

One of the challenges for the Stepping Up project was that the site was to be developed on SharePoint. SharePoint is not typically used for public facing websites but there was a mandate for this approach. Webcoda's previous experience in this area for projects such as Your Room and Make Healthy Normal for NSW Health made the development straight forward.

The final result is a well designed tool that serves NSW Health and the aboriginal community well and you would never know that it was developed on SharePoint.
